Long ago, even as Elves reckon time, the rulers of the Elven Empire of Cormanthyr ordered the construction of a great tower. The intent was to create a neutral ground in which all of the Elven sub-races could meet in peace and discuss matters of import to the entire people. Though even in its hay day the tower never saw use in its full capacity it was equipped with a small but very powerful mythal and dubbed Tiru Tel-Quessir, or Tower of the People.
Finally, the time came when the Empire of Cormanthyr crumbled under the repeated assaults of outside forces and the weight of its own power. The Tiru Tel-Quessir was abandoned along with the rest of the forest holdings it neighbored, though it weathered the ages far better than its neighbors due to the powerful magic that protected it from unwanted visitors as well as the elements. Time passed and things changed, but the Tower remained untouched and largely forgotten. Until, one day, the Drow came to Cormanthor Forest.
In the beginning there where many factions from which arose three to dominate the others. The followers of Vhaerun, the Worshipers of Lolth, and the loyal of Eilistraee all vied for control of the remains of the ancient Empire of the Elves. Over the course of a century they warred. The Vhaerunites possessed superior numbers but were poorly organized and seemingly without direction, the Eilistraeens were superbly organized and possessed strong leaders with definitive goals, while the worshipers of Lolth had both but were seemingly unwilling to pursue permanent gains on the surface, prefering to seize treasure and transport back to their subterranean cities. The conflict became so pronounced that even the respective deities took part in the matter, leading ultimately to the death of Vhaerun himself and the absorption of his church into Eilistraee's and suddenly increasing both her power and that of her church. In one fell swoop the Eilistraeens and their new allies swept Lolth's followers cleanly from the forest and the tunnels beneath it. Finally, after a century of conflict, the Empire of Cormanthyr was in the hands of goodly elves... just not the ones most people would have expected.
All sections of Cormanthor forest, with the exception of Semberholme (a moon elf community that considers itself under siege), are in the hands of the Drow worshipers of Eilistraee. Myth Drannor, the Elven Court, the Veil of Dreams, and the Tiru Tel-Quessir to name a few. A decade later, as the territories are secured, a call goes out to the other Elven sub-races. Who will answer?
